Collection: Illimis Wines

Illimis, the Latin word for clarity, signifies winemaker Lucinda Heyns’ crystal clear winemaking philosophy. Her wines are windows to where their vineyards are rooted.

“The first requirement of making good wine is to respect the environment.”   - Henri Jayer

This truth is deeply embedded in Lucinda Heyns.  How could it not be, as her origin lies in the vast deserts of Namibia, where one cannot other than develop a strange and deep connection with landscape.

Windhoek born, Lucinda studied winemaking and viticulture at Stellenbosch University. She worked as a viticulturist for leading South African wineries like Jordan and Mulderbosch, and refined her winemaking skills with experience in California, working with Andy Erickson at Dalle Valle and Screaming Eagle, as well as Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman at Domaine de la Cote, Sandhi and Stolpman.

A decade of hands-on involvement in both vineyards and winemaking, complemented by travels to various winegrowing regions, developed a clear vision for Illimis. With Illimis, the intention is to honestly harness what nature offers, and Lucinda follows a minimal intervention principle as far as possible, allowing the wine to express its origin with clarity, finesse and complexity.

Being a viticulturist at heart, Lucinda believes that everything starts with the vines. Every vintage is unique, and her hope is that every wine is a tribute to the endless pursuit of refining the potential of each site the Illimis wines are made from.
