2020 Angus Paul Wines Hespers (375ml)
Nectar, Estus, Golden Orbs of Hesperia.
This excruciatingly small production bottling currently uses two very old vineyards. One on Karibib farm in Polkadraai. The other, a block on the Groenberg in Wellington.
The grapes were hand picked at normal ripeness to retain freshness of fruit before being dried on mats in the Stellenbosch sun for six weeks until almost 50% of their moisture was lost, concentrating the flavour, sugar and acid.
The grapes were then pressed for four days to extract the maximum amount of juice before fermenting for six months in glass demijohns.
Immediately apparent is the striking golden colour of the wine followed by delicately grapey aromas backed up by a pronounced punch of confected fleshy white peaches, honey blossom, lemon peel and guava.
